About Napier New Zealand
Napier, situated the East Coast of the North Island, is famous for its many buildings in the Art Deco style. Napier was devastated by a major earthquake in 1931. The city was rebuilt during the peak of the Art Deco era and many of the new buildings reflect the tone of the 1930s - Stripped Classical, Spanish Mission, and above all Art Deco. Tourists come from all over the world to enjoy Art Deco Shopping, Art Deco walks, and Art Deco Weekends.
Napier is a costal city with a busy Port. Marine Parade extends along the foreshore with large Norfolk pines, pebble beach, statues, gardens, amusements, Marineland - New Zealand’s only marine zoo and wildlife centre - and the National Aquarium of New Zealand. Napier is the northern gateway to the Hawkes Bay Region with its strong emphasis on agriculture, horticulture and wine making.
Napier enjoys a Mediterranean climate and is one of the warmest cities in New Zealand with hot summers and mild winters (June-September). Tourism is a thriving industry in Napier, with tours to the local vineyards being especially popular. Each year, one winery holds an outdoor concert in February that attracts International artists and an audience of thousands.
