About Paihia New Zealand

Paihia, in the centre of the Bay of Islands, has three sandy beaches sheltered by rocky islets. The town has been a popular holiday destination for over a hundred years and today is one of the best-established tourist destinations in New Zealand. This is the ideal resort town for honeymooners. Paihia offers sun, sea and sand and first class tourist shopping.

This bustling town is the starting point for sightseeing cruises all over the beautiful Bay of Islands, including sailing charters, boat hires, guided diving trips, and swimming with dolphins. Many tourists also take day trips to Cape Reinga, Ninety Mile Beach and the Waipoua Kauri Forest.

Other tourist ventures include deep-sea fishing for sharks and marlin. Other things to see and do around Paihia include interesting bushwalks, a coastal walk to Opua, and Kelly Talton's Shipwreck Museum. Nearby is the historic Waitangi Treaty House with its informative displays and expansive grounds along with a Maori meetinghouse and an impressive 37-metre war canoe.
