About Tauranga New Zealand
Tauranga is the commercial centre for central and western Bay of Plenty. The area has around 48,000 households, and is characterised by strong population growth. People come to Tauranga for the sub tropical climate, excellent facilities, recreational pursuits, great restaurants, cafes and shopping.
There are sweeping surf beaches at Mt Maunganui and Tauranga Harbour offers sheltered boating for all ages. Other water-based activities include diving, game fishing and surfing. The area features many first class golf courses and there is white water rafting and jet boating on local rivers and 4WD thrills for the adventurous.
A relaxing time can also be had visiting local wineries or soaking in either mineral or salt-water hot pools. Property, business services, and the construction industry underpin the local economy, although horticulture, dairy and forestry are major export earners. The Port of Tauranga is the largest exporting port in New Zealand.
