About Whakatane New Zealand

Whakatane has something for everyone. The locals call Whakatane the ‘Big Little Town’ - not quite a city by official standards but big in attitude. Whakatane is the closest departure point for White Island, an offshore volcano with spasmodic eruptions and sulphurous gases.

Heli-tours are the most popular way to visit the White Island volcano. Other adventure activities available from Whakatane include rock climbing, tramping, mountain biking and sea kayaking.
