About Kaikoura New Zealand

Kaikoura is a seaside settlement situated midway between Christchurch and Picton on the rugged East Coast of the South Island. Inland are the majestic Seaward Kaikoura mountains that are snow-capped for much of the year.

Off shore, the deep waters of the southern Pacific Ocean bring all kinds of fish, seals, dolphins and whales. The unique combination of ocean and mountains offers stunning coastal alpine scenery and a host of eco-tourism oriented activities. Whale watching and dolphin swimming are especially popular with visitors coming from all over the world.

Kaikoura is on the main State Highway that runs the length of the South Island. The town offers accommodation for all, from backpackers to motels and lodges. Kaikoura is famous for relaxation, excitement, art, history and culture, fine wines and local cuisine, especially seafood and crayfish.
