Offshore is the tiny island of Pladda around which you might see seals. Lochranza Castle Lochranza Castle is situated about 15 miles north of Brodick, the capital of the Isle of Arran. Once a hunting lodge of the Scottish Kings, this 14th century castle is now in ruins, but is nonetheless picturesque. Brodick Castle This red sandstone castle nestles in dark trees at the foot of Goatfell mountain 1.5 miles out of Brodick, the capital of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. The castle is open daily from mid-April to end September 11.30am - 5pm and for 3 weekends in Oc Glenisle Hotel Visitors come to Arran to appreciate the individual qualities of an island with a wealth of scenery, including lofty mountains, green fields, and glorious sandy beaches fringed by palm trees. Brodick Castle Arran commanded the approaches to the Firth of Clyde, so it was important to hold Arran, and hence control most of the south of Scotland. Therefore there has been a fortress here since the fifth century. There was a Viking fort here. Isle of Arran Arran is a small island, 20 miles long and 56 miles round, situated off the south-west coast of Scotland.
