About Anchorage United States Anchorage is the largest city in the state of Alaska, comprising more than two-fifths of the state's population. Moose, black bear, and brown bear migrate into the Anchorage Bowl along greenbelts that link Anchorage to the wilderness of Chugach State Park to the east. The Chugach State Park located in the Chugach Mountains just east of the Anchorage Bowl, is the third-largest State Park in the United States and a very popular recreation destination.
