About Phoenix United States Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona, the state capital of Arizona, and the hub of the rapidly growing American Southwest. The United States military has a significant presence in Phoenix with Luke Air Force Base located in the western suburbs. The Desert Botanical Garden in central Phoenix has nearly 20,000 specimens of the prickly plants that thrive in dry climates, especially those from the Sonoran desert. Phoenix offers the outdoor enthusiast endless options ranging from world class golf and tennis to four-wheeling in the desert, hiking and hot-air ballooning.
