About Miami United States

The City of Miami, known as the “Magic City”, is located in Southeast Florida between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. The City of Miami and its suburbs are just above seal level and the city is built on several hundred natural and artificially created barrier islands.

Miami Beach and its famous South Beach with sun sand and hotels is built on a large barrier island to the east of Miami City. Miami has a warm, humid subtropical climate year-round, and borders on a true tropical climate due to the Gulf Stream, a warm ocean current that runs northward just off the coast. By 2010, the population in the City of Miami is projected to reach to 390,000.

Greater Miami is regarded as a cultural melting pot, with cultural and linguistic ties to North, South, Central America, and to the Caribbean with many people speaking Spanish or Haitian Creole. Miami, ranks along with Atlanta, Birmingham, and New Orleans, as one of the most important business centres in the Southeastern United States. The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 and Miami is statistically the most likely major city to be struck by a hurricane in the world, trailed closely by Nassau, Bahamas. Miami is a playground for everyone, from celebrities to young and old, with crowds during high season from November to March.

During the winter season, people from all over the United States flock to the white beaches of South Beach and the tropical waters of Key West south of Miami. The sophisticated, exciting and varied nightlife in Miami is a little on the wild side. Miami is home to great Cuban food, but a stone crab dinner at famous Joes Stone Crabs in Miami Beach is a must for most visitors.

The Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit north of the suburb of Coconut Grove contains hands-on and interactive exhibits that make discovering and learning a great deal of fun. At least a half a day is required to fully enjoy the Miami Seaquarium with its shows and attractions, including performing killer whales and Flipper the dolphin, the famous aquatic television star. The vast Everglades National Park that spans the tip of the Florida peninsula 56 km southwest of Miami, is the only subtropical preserve in North America and contains temperate and tropical plants and dozens of endangered species.
