Combined with Kansas City, Kansas, the entire metropolitan area in both Missouri and Kansas has about 2 million people. Kansas City lies almost in the exact centre of the United States, far from any ocean or significant body of water. The continental climate in Kansas City produces humid warm summers, winters that vary from mild to bitterly cold days, and pleasant springs and autumns with thunderstorms.
Kansas City ranks second in the world in number of fountains, exceeded only by Rome. Kansas City is spicy, sizzling, casual and friendly. Kansas City offers a wealth of attractions including wide boulevards, beautiful parks, fantastic architecture, world-class museums, a vibrant arts scene, superb shopping and great blues and jazz clubs.
The Plaza is a 14-square-block outdoor shopping and entertainment district in central Kansas City featuring boutiques and fashionable national stores as well as distinctive restaurants, outdoor cafés and nightlife hotspots.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art are two nationally renowned art museums in Kansas City. Some of the greatest jazz players in all of history got their start in the clubs of Kansas City and the Jazz Museum is one of the first museums in the United States devoted exclusively to this art form.
