Top: Wales > Mid Wales > Brecon > History / Government Brecon Castle Evidence has been found of the manufacture of flint tools on the castle site, dating back 4000 to 5000 years. North west of the hotel is the remains of Pen-y-crug, an Iron Age hill fort. It may well have been occupied when the Romans arrived. Brecon Cathedral Bernard of Neufmarche built a castle at Brecon to control the area and gave an existing church near the castle to a monk from Battle Abbey in Sussex called Roger. He and other monks of the Benedictine Order established a Priory on this site. Page 1 of 1       New Search |
